The ORs > The European Union Outermost regions

The European Union includes a number of territories which although geographically distant are close in terms of the exercise of rights and obligations, and very important in terms of territorial integrity.
There are 6 ORs. They are the four French Overseas Departments - Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique and Réunion -, the Spanish Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and the Portuguese Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira.
These regions are an inherent part of the European Union and, by the terms of the Treaty of Amsterdam, their distinctive characteristics qualify them for special treatment in various sectors.

The OCTs > The European Union Overseas Countries and Territories.

The overseas countries and territories (OCTs), which depend constitutionally on four Member States of the European Community but which do not form part of the Community territory, have benefited from close association with the Community since it was first set up.
The new OCT association arrangements were designed to achieve the four objectives set out in Declaration No 36 on the OCTs annexed to the final act of the 1997 Treaty of Amsterdam, namely:

> promoting the economic and social development of the OCTs more effectively;
> developing economic relations between the OCTs and the European Union;
> taking greater account of the diversity and specific characteristics of the OCTs;
> improving the effectiveness of the financial instrument.

The EU2SAs > The European Union’s States Sovereign Areas

The European Union’s States Sovereign Areas (EU2SAs) depend on Member States of the European Community. There do not form part of the Community territory and they do not have any form of association with the Community.
Nevertheless, the EU2SAs are part of several European Union’s states, and depend on their relative national legislation concerning immigration issues. The EU2SA have been plainly integrated to the Official European Union Green Card Lottery program. Being an immigrant in such territory is a step forward on the road of the EU.
